TRY SOMETHING NEW: WREATH MAKING

  |     |   Apartment Living

Wreaths are decorations that you can use all year round for different seasons or different holidays and other occasions. They can be placed on your front door to make your home more inviting, or you can hang them up inside to spruce up your home’s interior. If you’ve never made a wreath before, the following tips can help you out.

CREATE A BASE
You can purchase a base for your wreath at a local craft store, or you can make your own from household items you have lying around. If you want to make your own wreath from scratch, you can create a base from two wire coat hangers. Place the coat hangers together, and move the wire pieces around to connect them. For decorative purposes, cover the hangers with floral tape.

ADD GREENERY
Gather branches of pine, grapevine or another type of greenery depending on what kind of wreath you want to make. Attach the branches to your base with lightweight floral wire. Make sure that the branches are overlapping, so you won’t end up with any bare spots on your wreath. You should have enough branches to completely cover the base.

CHOOSE DECORATIONS
Pick decorations for your wreath, such as ribbons and flowers. The decorations you choose will depend on what kind of wreath you want, such as a spring wreath or a summer one. If you’re doing a holiday wreath, choose decorations that are associated with that particular holiday. For seasonal wreaths, choose flowers that are in season and colors that are associated with that season. For example, you can use pastels and tulips for a spring wreath.

ADD DECORATIONS
When you have your wreath decorations all picked out, use hot glue to attach them securely to the base. If you don’t have a hot glue gun, you can use floral wire to place these items on your wreath instead. Just make sure that they’re firmly secured to the base, so they won’t fall off.
